From a Taipei Workshop to the World’s Air Mattresses

Team Worldwide started in 1973, when Tony Wang and Jane Tsao set up a small family-run operation in Taipei with one idea: inflatable products that people would actually want in their homes. Functional, safe, and not an afterthought.

The early wins came fast. A partnership with Playskool in 1976 moved more than 20 million units. The following year the company worked with Nan Ya Plastics to develop non-toxic PVC, which mattered more than it might sound like, since material safety was not yet standard in the category. By 1980 they had moved into inflatable swimming pools.

The 1980s brought the products that got other manufacturers paying attention. A co-developed version of Twister with Hasbro sold over 10 million units. A patented inflatable paddle boat arrived in 1988. Then in 1989 came the world’s first inflatable spa, which is the kind of product that sounds obvious only after somebody has built it.

Manufacturing scaled through the 1990s and 2000s with facilities in Dongguan and Huizhou, followed by a run of air mattress innovations that shaped what shoppers now expect. More recently the company opened US warehouses in California and Massachusetts, added a San Francisco office in 2024, and began expanding into the China market.

Fifty-plus years in, the headquarters is still in Taipei, on Songzhi Road in Xinyi District. The customer list runs from Walmart and Target to Serta, Sharper Image, and QVC.
